Complex root canal systems in back teeth and inflammatory processes at the tip of the root can make the procedure stretch over 2 to 3 appointments.

A very high percentage of root canal patients will experience immediate pain relief. Even pain while biting could still be present due to inflammation in the surrounding bone area at the tip of the root, this will gradually disappear. If the tooth is severely compromised, the suitable restoration for the root treated tooth is a crown or an overlay.
